Mission Statement

Our SOLE mission is to keep the Santa Cruz Harbor open and to ensure continuous, safe navigable access to the Monterey Bay for all lower and upper harbor slip renters, dry storage renters, boat ramp launchers, and most importantly, rescue & vessel assist services. We support (1) an environmentally safe and effective sediment removal program and (2)the restoration of the Arana Gulch Watershed in order to reduce sediments entering the harbor.

FOHG strongly supports this mission to prevent the following negative impacts on the Santa Cruz community due to a closures of the Santa Cruz Harbor.

• Inability of public safety and vessel assist services to respond to vessels, surfers and swimmers in distress resulting in loss of life and/or toxic discharges to the Monterey Bay.
• Loss of sales and property tax revenues due to the reduction in visitors and business activity in the harbor and surrounding neighborhoods.
• Loss of jobs and business closures in the harbor and surrounding community as a result of reduced harbor activity.
• Elimination of local availability of fresh seafood as commercial fisherman are unable to access the sea or return to a safe harbor.
